I’m Paolo De Marino, an independent consultant helping life sciences companies with commercial strategy and operations.
My path
I started my career in strategy consulting, spending seven years at Monitor Group advising pharmaceutical and biotech companies on marketing strategy, customer models, and franchise development. I then moved to Simon-Kucher & Partners, where I led projects on pricing, market access, and strategic marketing.
In 2012, I joined Biogen to build their US Competitive Intelligence function ahead of a major competitive threat. I later moved to Bioverativ (Biogen’s hemophilia spin-off, later acquired by Sanofi), where I led Sales & Marketing Operations and then Franchise Marketing as Executive Director.
In 2020, I co-founded SponsorMotion, a startup in the event discovery space. There, I pioneered the use of large language models for data infrastructure—building AI-powered categorization and search systems months before ChatGPT brought the technology to mainstream attention.
Today, through Arlex Consulting, I advise life sciences companies on commercial strategy, launch planning, and AI implementation. I also develop and deliver AI training programs for Hands on Learning and Development.
What drives me
I’m fascinated by the intersection of commercial strategy and emerging technology. The life sciences industry is at an inflection point—AI will fundamentally change how companies gather intelligence, engage customers, and make decisions. I enjoy helping organizations navigate that transition thoughtfully.
